Maria’s Childhood
Maria was born in Fairfax, Oklahoma. Her mother is Ruth Tallchief, and her father is Alexander Tallchief. Maria also had a sister, her name was Marjorie Tallchief. Maria began dancing and playing the piano at the age of just three. When she was eight, her family moved to Los Angelos so her and her sister could have better ballet training. At the age of seventeen, she danced with her first ballet company, which was Ballet Russe De Monte Carlo. It is located in the capital of Monaco.

Ruth was born on May 20th 1899, and died in November of 1981. She was the mother of three kids. Maria Tallcheif, Marjorie Tallcheif, and Gerald Richard Tallcheif. In 1947 Ruth married Alexander Tallcheif. She put Maria, and her sister Marjorie in ballet classes at the age of three.

Alexander was born on January 24th, 1925 in Fairfax Oklahoma. He was a real estate executive. Alexander was also very passionate about Maria pursuing her dreams in ballet. He was supportive of putting her in ballet classes.
