Maria Tallcheif met a man named George Balanchine in 1944, Which was when she started dancing at Ballet Russe De Monte Carlo. They got married in 1946. However they go divorced in 1951. George Balanchine choreographed the New York City Ballets nutcracker in 1954. Maria Tallcheif danced the first Sugar Plum Fairy for New York City Ballets nutcracker.
When Maria was 88 years old, she sadly passed away from a hip injury on April 11th, 2013. She was so loved and admired by many people in this world. Her legacy will live on forever.
